Peter fished for a living. This is how he fed his family. When Jesus finished preaching on Peter’s boat, He told Peter, “Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets and you will catch a lot of fish!” (Luke 5:4 TLB).

Peter replied, “Master, we’ve been fishing hard all night and haven’t caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I’ll let out the nets” (Luke 5:5 The Message). Peter was obedient and dropped his net. Now, the nets were straining past capacity to hold all the blessings of Jesus.

Jesus used what Peter had and blessed him with a great catch!

God blesses obedience when we use what He has given us to expand His kingdom. He might have given you abilities to speak, to write a song or book, a beautiful singing voice, the gift of hospitality, many children to pray with, a computer to use for His glory, cooking and baking skills, sewing skills, gardening skills, visiting the sick and lonely, etc…

Father, I know the only thing lasting and most important to You are the souls of people. Give me ways to fish for them. Help me to see these people through the eyes of Jesus.
